FINEO glass installer in East Anglian. FINEO glass is a vacuum-insulating glass which we use for double glazing retrofitting projects. It consisting of 2 panes of glass separated by a vacuum gap.

FINEO glass is vacuum insulated double glazing

Fineo glass vacuum double glazing is one of the market leaders of vacuum insulated double glazing in the UK, when it comes to upgrading single-glazed windows to double-glazing.

Because of it thin profile, it’s the perfect for double glazing original wooden windows in Grade II listed buildings or homes where owners would like to keep old window frames in place to retain the charm of their house.

Comparing heat loss: Single-Glazed Windows vs. FINEO Glass

The image shows a side-by-side comparison of a thermal snapshot and a standard photograph of a house, demonstrating the effectiveness of FINEO glass in reducing heat loss.

Heat-loss imaging of retrofitted and single glazed windows
  • Left Side: A standard daylight photo of a building with two windows. The window at the top has FINEO glass, while the bottom window is single-glazed. The two windows are highlighted with green rectangles to indicate their placement in both the thermal and daylight images.
  • Middle: A thermal image of the same building. The window at the top, featuring FINEO glass, shows minimal heat escaping, represented by cooler colors (darker shades). In contrast, the bottom window with single glazing appears as a bright yellow/orange spot, indicating a high level of heat loss.
  • Right Side: A grayscale infrared snapshot of the building. The top window with FINEO glass remains darker, reaffirming the superior insulation properties, while the bottom window with single glazing shows a much brighter appearance, reflecting substantial heat loss.

The image highlights the difference in thermal performance between FINEO glass and single-glazed windows, making the heat retention capabilities of FINEO glass visually clear.

Is FINEO Glass a unique glazing technology?

The answer is both yes and no. While vacuum-insulated double glazing technology has been around for at least the past 10 years, FINEO glass was unique at the time of its launch.

It introduced VIG glazing units with a perfect market fit for the UK, featuring no evacuation post and a low sightline.

FINEO glass is also unique in Europe as it is the only company producing VIG glazing units locally, whereas many companies in China and Japan have been manufacturing VIG units for public use for many years.

Our heat retention test

In this test, we evaluated the heat retention properties of FINEO glass.

On the left, you can see our setup, where we framed a FINEO glass pane and insulated the surrounding area with polystyrene to ensure that only the glass was being tested. A heat source was placed behind the glass to simulate indoor heating, allowing us to measure how well the glass prevents heat from escaping.

On the right, the thermal image shows the results. The frame around the glass is glowing brightly, indicating significant heat transfer, but the FINEO glass itself remains much cooler, demonstrating its exceptional ability to retain heat. This confirms the high thermal insulation performance of FINEO glass, with minimal heat loss compared to standard glazing.

How does Fineo glass compare to other glazings?

With superior glass technology, Fineo removed the air between the glass panes to create a vacuum instead of filling the space with gas, as is standard double-glazed units.

Although this vacuum does the same job as the gas by keeping the heat inside your home, it can not evaporate and totally disappear after about five years as gas normally does.

This is what makes Fineo a more reliable option and a long-term investment when it comes to retrofitting your windows with heritage double glazing.

FINEO glass benefits

FINEO VIG glass offers several advantages over standard double or triple glazing. Its key benefits include U-values as low as 0.7 W/m²K. Despite its excellent insulation properties, FINEO glass is ultra-thin (less than 10 mm), making it ideal for restoration projects like the ones we specialize in.

The glazing units feature a low-e coating, which helps to improve energy efficiency without significantly reducing light transmission, ensuring bright, naturally lit spaces.

Another important advantage is its durability. FINEO VIG glazing units are built to last longer than traditional glazing, providing consistent performance and greater resilience over time.
