Grade 2 Listed cottage windows restoration in Barley

This quirky, partially-clad home with single glazed timber frame windows in the village of Barley, is Grade II listed building and in character with others of the same style in the local area. We knew from our initial assessments of the property that the rotten window frames required a lot of attention as large areas across the property had severely weathered over the years and suffered damage.

To repair windows and other woodwork of this characterful property back to its former glory took some refined and meticulous restoration work, but we were happy to complete it in just 6 days with our efficient spray painting system.

Preparation of woodwork and windows

The window frames and sills, as well as the external timber cladding across this property, were in poor condition, so we began by scraping down all surfaces to remove loose/flaking paint before graduating sanding across the surfaces to get down to bare wood.

For the windows, we then use our accoya/tricoya wood system in the next step of the restoration process. This involves both repairs of damaged sections and following this lamination of frames with the wood where necessary to create a new sound substrate on required parts of the window frames/sills. Once decorated, it is indistinguishable from the original frame.

Repair of damaged window areas with this wood, in tandem with our resinous fillers, makes for a durable combination ideal for exterior exposure. Accoya and tricoya wood also offer resistance to mould and warping over time as well as a manufacturer guarantee of 50 years above ground.

The cladding required some special treatment as all the metal nail heads need to be treated with a specialist metal primer so they don’t stain the new paintwork following application.

After the surrounding areas are protected paint is then applied by sprayer employing our top quality US imported paints. This gives a consistent and durable finish with a beautiful sheen. The same method is also used across the timber cladding with the finished result being a top to bottom beautifully restored property.
