Accessibility

We’ve created the site taking the best practice into account. This means you should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader.

We also try to make the website text as easy as possible to understand.

We test this website using Google Lighthouse and by doing our own testing.

Customising your experience

We have made the site as easy to use as we can, but you might have a better experience if you change the settings on your device or browser to suit your individual needs.

For example you might change the site’s colours, increase the text size or have the site spoken aloud.

For help customising your experience using accessibility features already on your device or by installing extra assistive technologies, read AbilityNet’s My Computer My Way guide.

We know that there are some accessibility problems with this site and we’re aiming to fix them as soon as we can:

These include:

  • our web pages currently don’t have BSL translations
  • our feedback feature is difficult to navigate using a keyboard
  • our live chat feature is also difficult to navigate using a screen reader
  • most PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software
  • older videos do not have transcripts.

If any of these problems stop you from getting the information or service you need from our site, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
